Young Drivers
Safety is a key concern for young drivers. Driving a car with distractions like multiple passengers, cell phones, text messaging, late-night driving and adverse weather conditions can be deadly. Setting guidelines can help your teen stay focused and safe. Our Safe Driving Pledge can help start the safe driving conversation with your son or daughter. As unpopular as statistics can be — especially for teens — these startling numbers show the importance for structure and clearly communicated expectations when young drivers get behind the wheel. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people from 15 to 20 years of age1 During 2006, a teen died in a traffic crash an average of once every hour on weekends and nearly once every two hours during the week1 Be prepared to talk openly and often to your teen about these statistics and how to avoid becoming one — it may save his or her life. To help, Farm Bureau has identified some excellent resources to help you guide your teen down the road.
